Losing ACA Subsidies in 2027? What Michigan Residents Can Do
Quick answer: The enhanced credits that lowered premiums for many people expired after 2025. If your 2027 premium jumped or your credit disappeared, you can still compare plans, change your income estimate, switch metal levels or look outside the marketplace.
What changed
The original ACA rules are back. You qualify for a credit between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. Above 400%, which is about $63,840 for one person or about $132,000 for a family of four, there is no credit at all.
What you can do
Re-check your income estimate. Pre-tax retirement contributions and the self-employed health deduction can lower your income. Ask your CPA before you change anything.
Compare metal levels. A Bronze plan has a lower premium and a higher deductible. Look at the whole yearly cost, not just the premium.
Look outside the marketplace. If you are above the line and healthy, a private PPO may cost less. It comes with a health questionnaire and exclusions.
Check other help. Medicaid is expanded (Healthy Michigan Plan) in Michigan.
Timing
Open enrollment for 2027 marketplace coverage began November 1, 2026. Most HealthCare.gov deadlines are December 15 for a January 1 start and January 15 for the final day, but state marketplaces set their own dates, so confirm yours on healthcare.gov.
See live private-plan pricing or check your options and we will run both markets for you. Prices, carriers and rules change, so treat anything here as a starting point, not a quote.
